Wangka Maya Staff.

Wangka Maya acts as a resource centre for Aboriginal communities of the Pilbara. It holds an extensive database of material on Pilbara Aboriginal languages. Resources can be accessed by community members at our South Hedland office, by searching on our on-line ‘Nyirti’ database or by contacting us.

Some material in the Wangka Maya database is culturally sensitive, not for public access, private stories or deceased people’s material and may not be available to the general public. Material is the WMPALC database may be copyrighted by the original contributor. As a policy, such requests for material must be approved by the original contributor or the family of deceased contributors. This process may take a considerable length of time to achieve.

Costs associated with processing requests for materials, photocopying, tape copying or digitisation and postage, must be covered by the person requesting the material as WMPALC is not funded to cover these costs.

Requests for material must be made on the Request for Material form and emailed, faxed or posted to Wangka Maya.

Many of the items are also available through AIATSIS, see the AIATSIS contact details in the Links section of this website if you wish to obtain them from that organisation.
