Ngambunyjarri - Thalanyji Plant Names and Uses

Thalanyji women Anne Hayes and Shirley Hayes worked closely with their elders Rosie Campbell (dec), Judy Hughes, Laura Hicks, Valerie Ashburton, Les Hayes, Albert Hayes and Chloe Hayes to gather information about the names and uses of plants traditionally used by the Thalanyji people. Work began in 2006 and in 2008, Wangka Maya published Ngambunyjarri in partnership with the Buurabalayji Thalanyji Association.

This book is a resource for sharing Ganyara, or Aboriginal people's knowledge and culture. The Thalanyji elders lived and worked on pastoral stations in the Ashburton region in their youth, while most of the younger generation spent their childhood at Carnarvon Mission, visiting their parents during the holidays. The book presents information about plants of the Southern Pilbara in Thalanyji and English and describes common uses for each species. Ngambunyjarri - Thalanyji Plant Names and Uses is available from Wangka Maya and Buurabalayji Thalanyji Association.
